My son LOOOOVES Transformers so this deal was soooo exciting to find. While shopping at Walmart today I found a stack of coupons next to the transformers for $5 off of a $5.99 transformers toy. I found some toys fo $7.68 and ended up only paying $2.68 each!!! I stocked up for Christmas!!!
These will also be great birthday gifts for little boys 3 and up. All of the little boys at my son's school play with and pretend to be transformers sooo they are very popular right now! Stock up for birthdays for the next year!
I was at the Wylie Walmart but I bet they are at most stores. There is also a printable coupon at Target.com that you can use at Walmart or Target if you can't find the coupons in your store.

Best deals this week!
Wow! I actually have a moment to post a blog. This is very rare lately but I only have one kiddo today and she is sleeping right now. Allie and I did a grocery run this morning to Albertsons and Walmart. I wanted to share some of the things I found today while at the stores.
FIrst of all, I now started back shopping at Albertsons and this is mainly because they have some great deals lately and they still double/triple coupons. Albertsons always has lots of "peelie" coupons in store and can usually go in there without any coupons and get some good buys with the coupons offered in the store. Today, I had a list in hand and a stack of coupons!
SOme of the best deals at Albertsons:
Kraft Singles were part of the mega event and there were some $.50 off of 1 blinkie coupons next to them. This made them only $.99!!! I priced these at walmart at around $3 so this was a great deal and I stocked up!!! I'm thinking that we will be having grilled cheese for lunch or dinner in the near future.
Another good buy was the C&H sugar on sale for 1.99 (also part of the mega event). I had a $.65 off 1 coupon making for some really cheap sugar. Another great stock up price so I used all of my coupons for this item.
Also, I found Pop Secret popcorn regular price 3.49ish.... got it for around a 1$ using a $.50/2 coupon and they were on sale B1G1 free!
At Walmart I found $5 off any transformer toy and I stocked up on Christmas gifts for my son. I will post about this deal soon.
I have also been price matching alot at Walmart. I usually find the best deals at all the stores and make a list with the item and price and the name of the store. I have had no issues or questions regarding the price matching. Walmart has been really great lately and has cut down some time by allowing me to get deals from various stores at one location. However, if it is a deal that requires a coupon to double/triple I will stop by that store and pick up the item.
One price match I did today was
Knorr Chicken/Beef Stock: Price match to Tom Thumb or Kroger for $2.99
used a $2 off 1 coupon and got it for $.99
These are priced at $3.28 each at Walmart
Today I spent around $82 but saved well over $120. So very successful day and this also included some Christmas gifts for my son!

UUGGHH! Walgreens and coupons
WOW! I had my first experience being treated rudely today for using coupons. I am very lucky that this is the first experience I have had in the two years that I have been couponing. I have always been treated with respect and like every other customer. Today the manager at the Wylie Walgreens used very harsh tone of voice and accused me of coupon fraud etc and did everything but yell at me in front of every customer in the store... just for using coupons and asking why I did not receive the RR after my transaction. Oh my was that manager on a high horse. I will say that some fellow couponers came to my rescue and defense while dealing with this lovely manager.
My point for blogging about this is to let you know that this store is not following their corporate mandated coupon policies. The things I purchased today were paper towels, diapers and two toothbrushes.... so not worth the hastle I was given in my opinion but she treated me so poorly and did everything but yell at me in the store.
This is not my first coupon trip so she messed with the wrong lady today....
I could go on and on about the changes with coupons lately and the respect given towards people who use them... and I blame TLC's show Extreme Couponing... I absolutely CAN"T STAND this show!!!! We do not watch it because it has made couponing a fad/trend instead of the real purpose to save families money. I will have to write another blog on the problems with this show and what this show has cost everyday couponers like myself.
Here are some of the false "rules" the manager told me today and I wanted to let you all know so that the same thing does not happen to you and you will know how to prove that they are wrong.
This was my last and final trip to the Wylie Walgreens! I will gladly take my money and coupons to the Walgreens locations in Rockwall. The managers at these locations have always treated me with respect and they follow the corporate policies.
Thanks for listening (reading:))!

Here are some of the false "rules" the manager told me today and I wanted to let you all know so that the same thing does not happen to you and you will know how to prove that they are wrong.
- Walgreens coupon policy here and it clearly explains everything I'm about to mention.
- She stated that I could not use a Walgreens and manufactuers coupon for the same item... wrong! In the ad for this week it clearly shows examples of this and I showed her the ad when this happened. The main thing to remember when pairing both coupons is to use a "filler" item (pencil, highlighter, candy, etc...) so that your item to coupon ratio matches. Also, hand over the manufactuer coupon then the walgreens coupon.
- I was also told I could not use a filler item! What?! I told her that I simply just wanted to purchase a pencil and she stopped. I don't make their rules and policies.
- She also stated that "I" needed to pay out of pocket the total amount "after" coupons before I would be given register rewards.... wrong again! Coupons are money and the amount needed to get register rewards is before coupons not "after". Ex: a 2/$5 deal on toothbrushes and you get $3 register rewards back.... It does not matter what coupons you use as long as you have those items and you have paid for them (coupons or cash money)... you should get a RR!
- The store gets reimbursed for the amount on the coupon so you are paying the store "money" when you use coupons... don't let people make you feel like you are cheating them out of money for those items.. these stores get ALL of the money back from the manufactuer of that item!
- On Walgreens' help center on http://www.walgreens.com/ it clearly states their coupon policy and I wish I had brought it with me to the store today... it will be with me from now on.
This was my last and final trip to the Wylie Walgreens! I will gladly take my money and coupons to the Walgreens locations in Rockwall. The managers at these locations have always treated me with respect and they follow the corporate policies.

Tom Thumb frozen food deal and CVS diaper deal
This evening's trip to Tom Thumb was a perfect example of why I use a coupon binder. Tom Thumb is having a frozen food sale through 8/16. They have a $5 off of a $15 frozen food purchase in ad coupon that you can pair with manufactuers' coupons. The $15 is the total BEFORE coupons so.... this makes for some great deals. However, I had to go to the store with my coupon binder and calculator to figure out the best ones. I got $104.95 worth of frozen food items for only $35.56!!!
I did 5 transactions because I did 5 frozen food deals (they let me use the same in-ad coupon for each transaction)
Here is an example:
2 Digornio pizzas 2/$11 on sale
Totinos pizza $1.29
Totinos Pizza Stuffers 2.74
Total before coupons: $15.03 and before sale prices would have been $21.67
Used $5/$15 frozen foods in-ad store coupon
Used .75 off Totinos pizza stuffers
Used peelie found in store (on freezer door) $3/2 Digornio pizzas
Total came to $7.03!
68% savings!
I got the Huggies Slip-ons from CVS for free using ECB and coupons! I'm very excited to try these because Allie is so active right now and I think these will be so much easier to get on her. I love getting FREE diapers!
Here is my diaper deal:
Huggies Slip-on diapers jumbo packs $8.99
Use CVS coupon $2 off (found on CVS website)
Use $3 off coupon SS8/14
Total: $3.99!

Pampers diapers at Walgreens
There is a great deal on Pampers at Walgreens!
Buy 3 Pampers diapers jumbo packs $9.99each
3 pocket highlighters $.09each (fillers)
Use 3 $1.50/1 coupon PG6/5
Use $2 Walgreens Pampers Coupon found in Walgreens Infant Care Book (will deduct $6 total)
Use any RR you have (I used $5 RR from last week)
My total: $14.47 OOP
Received $5 RR to use for next week
So... got 3 Jumbo packs of diapers for only $3.15 each!
Without RR it will total to $4.82 each (still a great deal)

Some things to remember when shopping at Walgreens
- RR = Register Rewards (money given back from manufacturers/Walgreens
- You have to have the same number of items as coupons (I use small pieces of candy or really cheap school supply items)
- Always hand over the manufacturer coupons before the Walgreens coupons (less beepage)
- If you repeat the deal above using the $5 P&G RR, you will not receive another RR from the diaper deal... my advice is to use the RR from P&G on other items... then use the new RRs on another 3 pack of Pampers.

Kroger Mega Event this week! Saved $115.69 using coupons!
You know how much I love Kroger and especially their Mega Event Sales! I stocked up this week and did a big grocery trip. Next week, I should only need new fruits, veggies and bread. I always stock up and use up all of my coupons when there is a Mega Event.
Some of the "fillers" I used to create my 10 items were the Kroger tomato sauce, Monster drinks (my husband drinks these at work and they are usually EXPENSIVE.. got them for .99 each! Yay!).
I got everything below for only 69$... should have been $184.69!
Here are close up views of the items I got! I got the sippy cups for less than $1 each with a Kroger coupon and a B1G1 sale!

That baby in the background is PRICELESS!!!:)
I used a coupon for every item except the fruits, veggies, one of the loafs of bread, my filler items and the Jenny-O turkey bacon and sausage (these were a good price without coupons) and I used a ton of Kroger coupons (most are manufacturers'). They send these in the mail all the time and this is another reason why I like the binder method for storing coupons... it is easier to see the extra coupons I have that are not found in the Sunday paper. I was able to go down each isle and find deals that are not posted on blogs and websites just by having my binder open. Here are close up views of the items I got! I got the sippy cups for less than $1 each with a Kroger coupon and a B1G1 sale!
This is not my best trip by far. However, it gives you an idea of the savings and how coupons can save you a ton every week! I should post a pic of my next week's shopping trip and you can see how much I save... I will probably only spend around $15 to $20 because I do not need to stock up. I will only get the basics and free/dirt cheap items.

7 PJs for the price of 1!
I LOOOOVE The Children's Place!!! This is where I buy most of Carson's clothes and some of Allie's. I hit the sales and pair them with coupons. This weekend they are having 50% off of sale items.... which means extremely cheap clothing. I tend to stock up for the next season when they have these sales.
I was soooo excited when I saw that they had their girl's one-piece sleep and plays on sale for $4.99... BUT it got even better... they were 50% off the sales price... only $2.50!!! I also added on a 20% off coupon via email and they were only $2 each!!! My daughter wears these to sleep in every single night so I stocked up and got every size/color they had. They had a lot of girl's pjs but not very many for boys at the Rockwall store.
Everything below was only $26.50! Normally it would have been $105.50. MAJOR savings!
To put this in perspective... I got 7 pjs for the price of 1!

Zaycon Foods Chicken Event!!! Order by today!
Zaycon chicken is back!!! We are so excited to do this again. Zaycon is taking orders through today for boneless, skinless chicken breasts. They are sold in 40lb units and are divided up into 10lb packages. The chicken breast is all natural with no additives for 1.64$/lb. which is a great price. Zaycon's mission is to save families money by letting you buy meat in bulk. My family is getting an entire 40lb package and we will divide it up with our "food saver". Last time we divided the chicken up among 3 people and we wished we had bought an entire unit for ourselves. The chicken was very tender and was some of the best chicken I have ever had.
There are several pick-up locations. Our pick-up time is from 7 to 9am on Wednesday 6/15 in Plano. Usually they do pick-up times on Saturdays but for whatever reason this one falls on Tues and Wed.
Go to their site and register by today for their awesome chicken. Mention my name (Heather Hughes) and it will help me get credits toward my next purchase!

Zulily
There are not very many things that I pay full price for anymore. However, I have always wanted a little girl and to be able to enjoy dressing her up in cute clothes and bows! That can cost a lot of money.... so I try to hit sales and use coupons (of course) to purchase clothes.
http://www.zulily.com/ is a site that hosts daily deals on women's and children's clothing/toys, these are typically designer or high-end clothing, for at least 50% of the retail price! The deals show up at 8am via email and the good stuff sales out quickly!!!
I got this dress below for only $19.99 and it retails for $48! It was sold out in less than 10 minutes yesterday but it was worth a quick decision and purchase... I think I'm going to get some pics of Allie done in this dress!
I now have a favorite designer clothing line for kids (Baby Nay!!!!). I got a bunch of these pieces at a sample sale last November and fell in love! I got these 2 pieces for only $15 each... and these retail for around 50$ each. I bought these for our vacation to San Antonio because they are really light and will not be so hot in the summer... and they are adorable too!
If you join Zulily... mention me by going to this link to get started! It will give me credits to feed my new addiction!!! :) Thanks in advance!

CVS trip 5/23. Only paid 1 cent!!!
CVS
I stopped by CVS this afternoon with my list and coupons in hand. I came out with a great deal! I got everything pictured below for only 1 cent! I actually got it for free but the cashier told me he had to collect 1 penny in order to give it to me. I don't understand that policy but oh well! They are having an awesome makeup sale for 75% off the original price. Pair that with a coupon and it makes for FREE makeup. The Loreal Lash Out, Lip gloss, under eye concealer and eye shadow were all free or next to free (under .25 cents each)!!!
Some tips for shopping at CVS.
I typically recommend starting to coupon at CVS rather than Walgreens at first. Walgreens has some confusing coupon policies that I will talk about in a future post. Let me know how you do!

Some tips for shopping at CVS.
- CVS's sales run Sunday through Saturday. The deals are located in the ad in the sunday newspaper. I use the blog http://www.hip2save.com/ , http://www.mylitter.com/ and http://www.couponing101.com/ to match up coupons with their sales. Basically these ladies do all the work for me. I just make my list and gather the coupons.
- Always scan your store card at the "thing" - not sure what it is called :) but it is the red machine located in the front section of the store. Once you scan your card... it spits out coupons. Today I received a 2$ off Hershey's drops or Reeses' minis and a 5$ ECB for spending 30$ on beauty products (before coupons) during this quarter.
- ECB- These are Earned Cash Back for purchasing specific items each week. This week the stride gum was on sale for $.99 cents and you got back $.99 cents ECB on the bottom of your receipt. (ECB are pictured below). This makes the gum free. ECB print out at the bottom of your receipt. Just tear them off and use on your next transaction.
- There are limits on the amount of items you can get with ECB. For example: the nail polish has a limit of 6 this week. I bought 2 today and received 4$ ECB for each of them. I can go back this week and get 4 more that will issue ECB... the 5th one would not issue any ECB.
- I save ECB from the previous week in order to use it towards the first purchase on the next week. Today I started with 10$ ECB from last week.
- Multiple transactions: Today i only did one transaction because I had $15 ECB to spend. I got exacly 15$ worth of items and I was done for the week. I got back $8.99 that I am saving for next week's deals. However, I could have spent them on more items in a second transaction. If your second transaction gave you ECB then you could use them towards a third transaction and so on and so on.... Although, I typically never do more than 3 or 4 in one trip.
I typically recommend starting to coupon at CVS rather than Walgreens at first. Walgreens has some confusing coupon policies that I will talk about in a future post. Let me know how you do!

I have been sooo busy the past few weeks and I hope to not let so much time pass between posts in the future.
The Kroger Mega Event is taking place right now and I wanted to share some tips on how I shop these. A Mega Event is when certain items go on sale and you are required to buy 10 items to get $5 taken off at checkout (this is done automatically after scanning your Kroger card). This is $.50 off of each item's sale price.
Most of my work is done at home when I make my grocery list and gather my coupons and then I have some tips and tricks on shopping these sales easier. I also bring my coupon binder along and find deals while I shop (only when I am kid-free!)
Mega Event shopping: I typically group things together in items of 10 in my cart. I then find "fillers" to add... in order to create mulitples of 10. Today I had 25 items in my cart that were part of the mega event and I needed 5 more in order to make it 30 (mulitple of 10- just thought I should add that :)). I used Skinner pasta as my filler this week because they are only $.39 each! I also could have used Kraft bbq sauce at $.50 each but my stockpile is overflowing with bbq sauce right now. I had $15 taken off just for swiping my Kroger card.
I was low on pasta so I stocked up today. I got all of the Ronzoni pasta for free today and decided to stock up for the next 6 months and used every coupon I had in order to do this!
Some of the things I got for free using coupons were the 12 Ronzoni pastas, 2 Del Monte veggies, 2 comet cleaners, baby carrots, coffee creamer, 3 maruchan noodles, 4 Mahatma rice packages and the chicken (yes the chicken)!
I paid $48.52 for everything... orginally $146.23! Also, there was a 1$ catalina coupon printed out for next week.
How I got the chicken for free: I purchased 4 Freschetta pizzas and received a $5 coupon when I checked out. I used this 5$ catalina coupon in order to purchase the chicken (on sale for $4.89) in a second transaction.
I received coupons for free carrots, Del Monte veggies and creamer in the mail last week from Kroger and Vocalpoint.com. If you have not signed up for http://www.vocalpoint.com/ I highly recommend it. They send samples of new products and coupons for free products often. Kroger mails coupons at least once a month to my mailbox and every quarter sends some coupons for free products that I purchase often.
There are 2 more days left for this Mega Event but they usually take place once a month!

If you need some motivation to begin couponing...
Here is a list of things that I get for free with coupons. I have been able to get just about everything for free at some point but this is a list of things that I get consistently for free...
All of these items I got using coupons out of the sunday paper and on occassion using some printable coupons (I hate using printable coupons because it wastes so much ink so I try to avoid it if possible)
toothpaste
toothbrushes
dental floss
deoderant (secret, suave, lady speedstick, rightguard, oldspice,etc...)
dish soap (dawn, gain, etc...)
hand soap (soft soap, dial)
bar soap
chewing gum
pancake mix
brownie mix (duncan hines and betty crocker)
rice
bbq sauce
Frank's red hot sauce
Over the last year I have been able to get these things for free or for less than $.25 each....
pasta
spagettie sauce
canned tomatoes
Swanson's broth
fruit snacks (betty crocker)
cereal
dryer sheets
frozen veggies
body soap (Nivea, axe, old spice, etc...)
ketchup
mustard
many condiments
spices (McCormick grillmates, salt, pepper, garlic powder, etc...)
canned veggies
canned soups
canned fruit
ziploc or hefty freezer or sandwich baggies
baby food (I get coupons in the mail from gerber, beechnut, ect.)
baby wipes
and many more....
I also never pay more than $4 for a jumbo pack of diapers (this is less than half of the original price)
All of these items are in my stockpile right now and I never worry about running out! Half of my daughter's closet is for my diaper and wipe stockpile and the rest of the items above I store in the garage, laundry room and our pantry. I take note when we get low on a certain item and then I look for a great deal in order to stock up again.

5 coupon inserts this weekend!!! Yay!!!
Ok this is a great week to begin couponing. If you are just beginning I recommend buying multiple papers each week! I will get 4 papers this week (3 for free!). There will be 2 smartsource inserts, 1 redplum insert, a P&G insert and a Moments to Save insert (this one is rare and has a picture of a mom and daughter on the front of it) so don't toss it! So excited about all the coupons... yes I'm a coupon nerd!
How to get coupons for free?
I subscribe to The Dallas Morning News Briefing which gives me a preview of the sunday paper on saturdays... in this paper there are usually most if not all of the coupon inserts in there (this week the briefing was missing one of the smartsource inserts). Usually there are less than the sunday paper and some are missing but for the most part this works really well for me. My mom also gets the briefing so I usually pick hers up as well. I also get the coupons out of my grandparents' paper. I repay them by giving them lots of free things that I get with these coupons.
I usually only purchase one paper each week... sometimes 2!
Hopefully you will be able to find someone who is willing to give you their coupons each week! If you don't have someone that will do this... buy the double edition paper that is a dollar less ($5) and gives to two sets of coupons and subscribe to the DMN briefing!

NEVER EVER EVER pay for toothpaste!
Not kidding! There are many things that I don't pay for and toothpaste is one of them. Not only do I not pay for toothpaste... but half of my extended family does not pay for toothpaste ( which is why I get so many tubes). This week at Kroger you can get free kid's Crest and Crest. Here's how...
Kid's Crest and Crest toothpaste 4.6oz 10/$10 ( you do not have to buy 10 items to get this price!)
Use $1 off any Crest toothpaste PG4/4
and/or use $1 off Crest toothpaste (Kroger digital coupon)
= FREE toothpaste
Kroger Digital Coupons
If you have a store card...
Download the Kroger App for Iphone and enter your card number to be able to load coupons to your card.
If you do not have an Iphone... go online to Kroger.com and click on coupons in the middle of the homepage to begin loading coupons to your card.
Everything below except the Mentos gum and 6 of the tubes of toothpaste was bought using Kroger digital coupons! I paid $6.49 and should have been $34.69! Coke is a rare treat in my house so my husband was happy today when he saw this! I got them for around .65 each.

Walgreens: great diaper deal!
You can get a jumbo pack of Pampers diapers for $3.99 at Walgreens this week!
Pampers Jumbo Pack $8.99
Use $3 off Pampers diapers PG4/4
2$ off Pampers diapers Walgreens coupon in "Infant Care coupon book"
= $3.99!!! Yay!
If you do not have a Walgreens' Infant Care coupon book... They are typically located at the makeup counter or pharmacy and you have to ask around to get one.
Use the manufactuers coupon first, then the Walgreens coupon and don't give them the Walgreens coupon... they should scan it in the book and then hand it back to use again.
This is what the coupon book looks like.

Another freebie!!! Kid's toothbrushes and toothpaste!
I get so excited about free stuff especially things that we use all the time!
At CVS:
Aquafresh kid's toothbrushes/toothpaste are $1 on sale!
Use coupon $1 off aquafresh kid's toothbrush or toothpaste (not sure which insert)
= free!!!!!
At Walgreens:
Aquafresh kid's toothbrushes/toothpaste $2.39
Use coupon $1 off aquafresh kid's toothbrush or toothpaste (4/17 newspaper - not sure which insert)
and Walgreens' coupon for 1$ off aquafresh toothbrush or paste
= $.39!!!
(you can pair a Walgreens' coupon with a manufactuer's coupon for the same item)
Most of the time these free items are gone pretty quickly... if they are out at your store ask for a "raincheck"
A raincheck is a receipt that allows you to lock in a certain price for an item until a later date when they restock their shelves... just always watch to make sure your coupon doesn't expire before using the raincheck. I will be getting a raincheck at CVS this week.

Easter Bunnies:)
One of my favorite bloggers (http://www.mylitter.com/) posted a cute Easter gift idea and I decided to copy it. Here is the final result!
Aren't they adorable! They were super easy to make and cost less than a dollar! Most of the supplies I had on hand but I found the hand towels at Dollar Tree. I stuffed the back with an Easter egg and candy.
I plan on giving these to my kid's teachers at school and sunday school! Anyone else have some frugal crafty things they do for gifts? email me pics and I will post them!

There are four coupon inserts this weekend so make sure and buy/get several copies!

I wish this thing worked!!!
Someone would make a ton of money if these things actually worked!
Carson has vaccumed the entire house about 10 times already this morning and I wish I had all of his energy! He is sick AGAIN (surprise! surprise!) with a sinus infection/cold but still manages to play and clean the house!
Isn't he cute?!!
I told him that when he got done vaccuming that we were going to "tackle" his room. He said " so we can smack it and knock it down?!"
Yep he has played too much with his daddy lately and I wish that was all we had to do...
Hope everyone enjoys their saturday!

Coupons in this Sunday's paper
There should be 3 inserts (2 smartsource SS and 1 Redplum RP) in this weekend's paper! There might also be a General Mills (GM) insert too! This is a great weekend to get multiple papers. I suggest getting 3 papers a week for a family of 4 and this will help you "stockpile" items when they are dirtcheap or free.
My Kroger Shopping Trip
I spent $50.19 this week on groceries. This is on the higher end for me on groceries since my average is $30 to $50 each week. The total for all of these groceries would have been $128.84.
61% savings! I saved more than I spent... so I call that a successful shopping trip.
Last week I stocked up on meat, produce and sliced cheese and I only spent about 25$ on groceries. So it typically evens out week to week.
Here is everything I got at Kroger today!
Some of the free things I got today were all of the minute rice, reach floss and the snickers eggs. The baby wipes, Kandoo wipes, kid's toothbrushes, mustard, steamfresh veggies, gerber babyfood, shredded cheese and hotdogs were all under .50cents each! All of the coupons used were found in the Sunday paper and a few items I purchased with coupons that Kroger frequently mails to me.

Free Easter Candy!
This year was the first time that I didn't spend a ton of money on Easter candy. I actually paid about 1$ for at least $30 worth of candy. I did this by saving $10 of ECB at CVS and using coupons including a CVS coupon that printed off on my reciept for 5$ off of a 15$ purchase. I got at least 8 bags of candy for $1!
Here is how you can get some free candy!
Go to http://www.coupons.com/ and print off the $1/2 Mars Easter Candy Product. This will get you some free Snickers Sport Eggs at Walgreens and Walmart this week!
